Review: Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

*this review may contain spoilers*

Title: Pandemonium
Author: Lauren Oliver
Series: Delirium
Pages: 379
Genre: YA, Dystopia, Romance
*****

I'm pushing aside the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school,
push,
push,
push,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.

After the cliffhanger in Delirium I was so very curious about reading Pandemonium.
And I think I am happy I did.

There was almost no introduction to the novel or review of what happened in Delirium. This story went straight up where Delirium stopped. Whe got right into the action of the story. And I am happy for it. Because sometimes you got a lot of review in a second book, and I think it is not necessary.

Pandemonium is a very different story than Delirium with a lot of emotions, like angst, confusion, happiness, pain... This is also a story with a lot more action and excitement events.

In this book Lena learns to push her old life out of her way and begins a new one in the wilds. With a lot new people who are learning her to live the way they do. And I can tell you that Lena have to deal with a lot of horrible situations. But she got only stronger because of these situations. And I can’t blame her. It is or dying or growing stronger and live your new life.

What I also love about this new book is the fact that Pandemonium tells two stories simultaneously, both Lena’s. But one is taking place immediatly after she got in the wilds and the other about a few months later. First I was really confused with this, but after the first part of the book I really liked it.

And what about romance in this story? You think there isn’t any of this. But there are a few new characters and Julian is one of them. He and Alex are like black and white, night and day, the complete opposites of each other. Julian stood for everything Alex was against. Lena and Julian met each other under some tight circumstanses, and they really don’t like each other at first. But when your life depends on each other you got to learn to become close with each other, to trust each other. And from one thing comes another. I think it was very clear that there became a kind of chemistry and attraction between them. But I think you read that for your self. :D Because it is sweet but also confusing.

So let me tell you that I really liked this story and the new Lena. She became a really tough girl. The story was very different from Delirium but sooo great. But let me tell you that I was a little irritated when I read the last page of this book. A big fat cliffhanger? Again? Why Lauren? Why?

*****
First I gave this book 3 stars/masks but when I started this review and I was thinking back at this story, I thought it really deserves 4 stars/masks.

Review: Delirium

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

This is an extraordinary story. I've never read a book like this, but I really liked it.
It's about a world where love is an illness, and when you got it, you'll get brainwashed or "cured" so you don't have it no more. This only happens to people who 18 years old or older. However, an exeption is made when you're nearly 18 and you are just to ill because of love.

I have to say that it took me ages to get through the first part of the book, I almost stopt reading it altogether, but alot of people told me I just had to get through that part and that I would love the book in the end. They were right!

You get to know Lena when she lives with here aunt, uncle and cousins, her parents have died and her sister and brother-in-law live someplace else. Lena knows what her future will look like and she can't wait to start her knew life. She's almost done with school and after the summer she will also get the brainwash-treatment. Her best friend Hanna is also on the same scedule, which means they can enjoy one last summer together. After the treatment it's most likely that they no longer are going to be best friends, because they are from different enviroments and they just do mingle in the adult world.

But then there's an unexpected twist to the usual so normal summertime. Lena meets Alex, a boy who supposedly already went through the treatment. Because everyone thinks he is "cured" she's allowed to hang out with him, but then he tells her his secret. Talking to Alex makes her realise that there is a whole different world out there and even though she doesn't want to give up all the securities and dive head first in the unknown, she does start to doubt. It takes her a long time to make the decisions she wants to make and confince herself to go and live a whole different life.

This book is full of friendship, excitement and love and I can definitely recommend reading it! :D

Die for me

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.

Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.

Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.

Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.

While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?

When I saw the cover of this book I was already interested in reading it, before I even knew what kind of story this would be. And then I saw the (negative) reviews of other readers. However, that didn't stop me from reading it. I think this is a fantastic book. And I totally disagree with people who gave this a bad review. (It's nothing personal :D)

I can tell you that I love this story. The setting is fantastic, Paris!! The city of love...sigh...

After they loose their parents in a car accident, Kate and Georgia move to Paris to go live with their grandparents. Both girls handle their loss in their own way.
When Kate decides to go out, and ends up reading in a little restaurant, she meets Vincent. Vincent is a very handsome boy with a secret that Kate will find out very soon.
It's a fantastic love story. Love the character Vincent. He is a real old fashioned gentleman. And handsome, but I mentioned that already. Also, he gives Kate a fantastic feeling. But Kate is so afraid to let her self feel again, afraid to lose him, that she pushes him away and out of her life. But that's not everything of course...

It's a story about love, trust, families and....a very big secret. But I think you should read this for your self.
It is a 'one of a kind' book. A book like this, with such a great setting and such fantastic characters, is unique. (Although I do think every book is unique in its own way.)

I can tell you that I was really disappointed when I reached the end of this fantastic book so soon. But, there is a sequel being made and I hope to read it very soon :D

First of all, don't you love the cover of this book? It fits perfectly with the other books. It's sooo beautiful.

I love the idea of a book that just lets us see what our favorite characters of this serie do on the same Valentine's day. Some of their stories are so incredible sweet. And some of them are just something else. But you also learn about these characters. So I like it a lot.

And don't you love this book in your collection with the other books of Fallen?

I can tell you it's worth reading it. But I think it's necessary that you read the other books of Fallen first.

"Sometimes love needed a lift from it's guardian angels, to get it's feet off the ground. But once it made it's first early beats toward flight, it had to be trusted to take wing on it's own and soar past the highest conceivable heights, into the heavens-and beyond."

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Thoughts:

What a fantastic book! I like the writing styl that Cassandra Clare has.
In this book we'll meet Tessa a sweet girl that is looking for her brother. He is the only family she still have and he is missing. In her search to find her brother she will be kidnapped by the dark sisters. And with the dark sisters she'll find out she can do a lot more than being only a 16 year old girl. And its creepy. Thats what I think. And I think I really freak out, more than Tessa thit.

And then...the dark sisters would like to introduce Tessa to the Magister. When she finds out what is realy going an, shes being rescued by handsome Will. After leaving the Dark Sisters, she lives in the Institute, which is the home to Shadowhunters.
Then the first part of Tessa's story in the Institute she is being introduced to the Shadowhunters. And I can say that those people are really interesting to read about. Everyone of them is different but lovely in there own way. I adore the character Jem. And I dont know what I should think about Will. But Tessa is challenging herself to find out who Will is and what has happened to him. And she falls in love. But he is just some stupid boy. And I really think she should just go with Jem. Jem is such a sweet boy. But that's just what I think about it.

Oh...and there will be a lot ofaction in the last part of the book. It was sooo exciting to read. And I think that Tessa suprised everyone with her actions.

I cant wait to read Clockwork Prince. And I will let you know how I think about that book.
